Fleece dog coats, which are the best? We have a dog that needs to go swimming twice a week for Hydrotherapy to help with hip-displacia and would love to get her a decent fleece coat to wear on the journey home so she doesn't get chilled. Nedra E replied: "This isn't fleece, but it would work.
If you know a spinner and someone with a great pyrenees dog, you can have the fur spun and knit her a pyr coat. It would be FANTASTIC!"
The Dalai replied: "Any kind that you can still find. In my area it's warm out now and no stores are selling coats, unless on clearance.Try petedge.com. They may still have some.My preference is the kind that has a strap on the chest and one that goes under the belly. They are the easiest to remove and put on the dog.The strap (also made of fleece) is usually hooked together with Velcro."
Madame Exx replied: "LMAO!!!
You never heard of TOWELS???
Of DRYING the thing BEFORE you load it??
duh.....snort....snicker
"Fleece" does NOT absorb water well."
julia replied: "A Berbers is the best as it is waterproof and has a warm natural fleece inside."
anwen55 replied: "Have you tried these:"
xox_iinlove_xox replied: "Fleece and water dont mix. Just use a towel and turn on the heat when driving. Good luck with your dog."
tina b replied: "Fleece is good. It will keep your dog from being chilled. There are also many other options. Bathrobes, hoodies, T's ,PJ's. I don't dress my dogs but many people do. If you put dog coat or dog clothes into a search engine you should get more responses then you know what to do with. Drying the dog is not enough if you are going into the cold or an air conditioned area. Any dog or person with a joint problem doesn't need to have it's bones chilled. The muscles contract and it's joints are strained. Anything with a velcro enclosure will be the easiest to get on and off and will lesen the stress on her joints. Believe it or not, Old Navy makes a good quality dog product. In the meantime keep a fleece blanket in the car so she can make a nest for herself. If she can't do it, do it for her. It will help.
Good Luck and good for you for taking her for hydrotherapyy."
kathy w replied: "Depending on the hydrotherapy pool you use, they should have a dog dryer, dry her off with that first to get the worst of the water out of her coat. Then towel her off with a rough towel, so that she is pretty much dry.
You could actually make her a coat out of a big piece of towelling which is more absorbent than fleece and will remove any excess water from the coat, put the heater on in the car on the way home and she should stay nice and snug until you get home."
Meggan's Mum replied: "The best coats are dog's own. As long as you aren't washing her with shampoo she will retain her natural oils which in turn will keep her coat healthy and therefore keep her warm. Dry her thoroughly before going home is the only answer. Putting a fleece on a wet dog will be very bad for her joints and as she already has hip dyspaysia you will make it much worse by putting a coat on wet fur!"
sue replied: "pucci make some gorgeous dog clothes, including hooded fleeces, with pucci across the back" Where can I find a cute fleece coat for my Medium size dog? Oh she's a girl too but I want something that will keep her warm when it starts to snow here. I ♥ BABY BLUE AKA HONESTY RULES replied: "Probably Target. I saw a whole bunch of super cute pink coats there in the pet isle"
a_denikey replied: "since she's a girl they have a lot more stuff available locally.
walmart
petsmart
petco
etc.
i usually go to dog.com for things like that but i'm usually buying other things to so i wind up with free shipping. i bought my yorkie a baby blue hoodie for the winter and a raincoat since he's my only dog that gets affected so much by the weather." Do labradoodle f1b fleece coats shed.? Ya i know it is a mouthful, but i got the intention that the f1b labradoodle dont shed, and i was wondering if the fleece coat f1b sheded. I am an allergy suffer and was considering to buy this short of dog that has a f1b fleece coat. mauveme49 replied: "Labs shed and since it is part of the Labradoodle make up it will probably shed. But they are just mutts anyway so you never know what you will end up with.,Don't get sucked in by so called "designer Breeders" they are just out to fleece the unsuspecting."
Rotten Rotts replied: "All dogs shed, a Labrodoodle is a lab mix mutt. Labs are heavy sheaders"
EMiLy replied: "I'm sorry, I don't know much about Labradoodles.
However, my family and I recently bought a Mini Goldendoodle. She is absolutely wonderful and doesn't shed at all. (The only time was when she lost her puppy fur and got adult fur) We have two huge allergy sufferers in my family, and this dog doesn't bother them at all! But please note: depending on if it's strictly a lab and poodle breeding or if it's in the second generation (two labradoodles breeding) will alter the results. It can be more one breed than the other so you may want to check into that!
Goldendoodles and Labradoodles look a lot alike to me, so consider this breed!
I hope I helped! Feel free to ask me any more questions!"
joanplus4dogs replied: "All dogs shed. Rarely is it the hair ppl are allergic to but the dander or saliva. You must know beforehand which exactly you are allergic to before getting any animal. Every hair on every dog's body must be shed & re-grown just like your hair. Plus know that labradoodles & goldendoodles take a LOT of grooming."
Shadowed Wings replied: "its a mutt, and yes most lab/poodle mixes do shed. Don't let yourself get ripped off."
Wolf Femme replied: "ALL dogs shed.
Mutt or purebred, long haired or short haired, smooth coated or wire haired, double coated or single coated.
Please don't buy into a BYB trend.
If you want a mutt, go to the shelter.
If you want a dog that hardly aggravates allergy sufferers -- contact REPUTABLE and RESPONSIBLE breeders of *purebred* dogs."
lexi m replied: "It depends on if the dog inherits the lab coat or the poodle coat. With a mix (even a f1 b mix) it is still random luck which coat it will inherit. The odds are that it will shed because labs are big shedders.
I own a toy poodle who doesn't shed at all around the house. There is never any fur on clothes or furniture. But he does require regular grooming every 6 weeks.
I previously owned a yorkie who also didn't shed.
But you could be allergic to the dander and not just the fur. Non-shedding dogs may or may not be good for allergy suffers.
Personally, I would visit a known breeder of a dog that doesn't shed... like a poodle, maltese or yorkie and see if your allergies act up. Then get a dog of one of those breeds.
Mixed dogs have no guarantee one way or the other." Did you buy outwear, fleece, coats or sweaters at Kohl's during Fall/Winter of 2007? I ask this because i am ding a Marketing Project on Kohls. So please i really need alot of answers to add them to my project.
thAnKSs!
I ask this because i am doing a Marketing Project on Kohls. So please i really need alot of negative feedback, becasue teh issue that i used in my project is that Kohls sales went down because of the warm weather, so nobody wanted to buy jackets etc.
I need a lot of answers so i can add them to my project.
thAnKSs! Blue eyed Rascal replied: "Yep, I bought a Columbia winter coat.
Good luck with your project!"
Fashionista replied: "Whats Kohls, so obviously I didn't" What do you think of this fleece coat? Cute or not?
Is it woth $40?
Thanks.
Ugly? Cute? Would you wear it?
Honest opinions please =] l!ndsey replied: "totally worth it"
Marisa :) replied: "it's super cute :)
i'd wear it"
Anna C replied: "Cute =]
So worth it."
missxxxinnocence85 replied: "It's Cute"
Smiles replied: "Maybe in a different color?"
Taylor B replied: "Super cute! Def worth 40, but doesn't it say $69? I think it's worth that, too! It will go with all colors, it seems quality so will last a few winters, and it has a really put together look. I really like it."
pinkberry replied: "I don't like it. The pockets are ugly and it looks it might make you uncomfortable."
Kristy replied: "Not cute.
It really isn't one of those coats you can wear EVERY DAY
and you can wear it very spareingly because the weather has to be just right.
But if you were to get it, i would say in a different color. The gray looks bad next to the white fur :)" Making a fleece coat/jumper for my dog? Hi! I'm struggling to find patterns for fleece coats/jumpers for dogs! They're all knitting, and well I can't knit. How should I go about making some fleecies for my dog? And before anyone says "just buy them" - I want to make my own, I do have some bought ones though. Any ideas? She is a Cavalier King Charles weighing approx 8kg (only quite small). What measurements do I take and how do I draw up a pattern? Thanks
I didn't ask for opinions on clothing dogs. She has to be fully clipped out all year round on the advice of the vet. Would you rather I let her freeze?
Justme - I shall repeat; Would you rather I let her freeze? Seymour Butz replied: "look lady, a dog is a creature of the earth. He doesn't want the fleece. Just let him be!"
kincaid1 replied: "Ugh, dressing up a dog - it's so silly. I go to these pet stores and see dogs all dressed up with a look on their face saying "yes! I'm a dog, but my owner doesn't seem to think so"."
neonlights1971 replied: "Try matericals at a Cloth store or walmart.."
Justme replied: "I never understood why some people put clothes on animals. If you want to dress something up, buy a doll."
Fallgal replied: "Hi! I also have to put sweaters on my dog when we travel to colder climates because she also has to be clipped year round (again, vet's advice due to skin condition). I don't dress her in goofy outfits but I do try to keep her warm.
Have you tried asking at your local sewing/material or craft shop? I'll bet someone there has done something similar and could advise you. OR do you have an old coat that you could cut or trace to make a pattern? OR how about posting on a sewing or craft forum? I'm sure there are a lot of people who make these for their dogs.
Here are some I found:
Good luck!"
Natz replied: "I have a Cavalier myself, and they do get very very cold if they are clipped - Even without clipping him, mine still needs a coat when the temperature drops. I would suggest buying one jumper that fits her, then using that as a template for making your own.
You've also inspired me to make some for mine! (I would be happy to send you the template once i do it if you like)"
Memphis_Belle replied: "Have a look at the Equafleece Polo jacket. My Dobermanns love them. They are the ultimate light weight water resistant wash in the machine and go dog jumper.
I know you are considering making it yourself ~ but these are wonderful, so I hope you don't mind my mentioning them.

Just to add, before anyone says I shouldn't "dress up" a dog - she has to be fully clipped out all year round on the advice of the vet. So it's dress her up or let her freeze - simple choice! Mrya replied: "http://www.sewing.circleofcrafters.com/freepetvestpattern.html
Here are a few I have found in the past on-line. Also, all of the major pattern companies (vogue, McCalls, Butterick & Simplicity) make patterns for pet coats.
I have a 60 pound dog and have made her fleece coats in the past. She has Lupus and gets very cold easily. they are pretty easy to make if you have some sewing skills.
Good luck."

I just wish my boyfriend would let me dress up our dog... He'll only let her wear doggles lol (dog goggles)" forever 21 fleece coat?!? does anyone own this coat or have feedback the quality of other coats from forever 21? thank you
# ♥Helloo replied: "As a teen I shopped at forever 21 a lot last year. The material of their clothes were not very good. I don't know about that coat but looking at it, I think it might be thin and the material might be a bit hard."
vee replied: "forever 21 is awful.. at least go to macys"
sunshine replied: "forever 21 has very cute and cheap clothes, however, some are very poorly made.
here's a similar coat from target, its a little more expensive, but it wont fall apart on you:=&index=tgt-mf-mv&field-browse=720681011&rank=-product%5Fsite%5Flaunch%5Fdate&rh=&page=1
and i think this one is adorable:=&index=tgt-mf-mv&field-browse=720681011&rank=-product%5Fsite%5Flaunch%5Fdate&rh=&page=1"
kelso replied: "thats a really cute coat...but if you are going to spend $22 on it...i would buy it from a place where the quality of the jacket is better"
hellogorgeous replied: "because I'm a teen and don't have a lot of money, I shop at forever 21 a lot. I have that coat and it's really warm and cute. :)" Leather coat's do they protect you from the cold? as much as good fleece coats, I am going to Scotland,
and do not know which to take'
from the cold damp elements debs replied: "yes they do"
Devout Muslim replied: "absolutely"
SkyLights90N replied: "I find that leather is not a coat to wear when you need warmth unless it has a heavier quilted lining, and most don't. Many leather coats are styled for looks rather than utility. An all weather coat with a warm zip-out lining might be better for a damp climate."
donna d replied: "a nice down jacket might be the right choice or a heavy fleece would be much better and keep you warmer it is cold there this time of year."
Lisa S replied: "Depends on the lining."
Helen S replied: "Leather definately! Have a nice time!"
Leather David replied: "Well, I'm from Scotland and live in California now...so when I go back I feel the cold more...I always wore leather back in Scotland and now have a heavy leather jacket with a thinsulate lining - it keeps me plenty warm back there. you might consider putting your fleece along with some sweaters in a garbage bag and using a vacuum to suck all the air out and tying it off- you will be amazed what you can then fit in your case; that way you have both!"
T C replied: "I don't think they keep you warm at all.
Take a fleece to Scotland :o)" |
